I'm getting some nonsense that people who like my pages can't view them anymore because they don't have SU and now it prompts them to sign up to prove they're 18. This annoys me as apparently a few of my friends liked to visit my page every now and then, and now they can't because I'm R.

Is SU trying to censor people with unwieldy content? Are we being punished or something?

I just noticed this, too. SU has changed the message that appears - and the code - so that when you view an
R- or X-rated page externally (outside of SU, not logged in) ... you can't. View it, I mean. It used to be an "I swear I'm old enough, please let me see the page" message. Now it's "You can't view the page unless SU can own you" (i.e. you HAVE to sign in/sign up).

Sheesh, even porn sites give people more credit that ... you click to guarantee to them that you're over 13 or whatever, and you're in! What's the deal here? Is eBay leading SU astray already??!?

I just noticed this as well. I have friends who view my SU profile as a kind of blog, and I often link articles from it to people. I hope this isn't a permanent change - I can't see why it's necessary.

I just tried to view Wray's page when signed out - I was prompted to sign up for SU. The logic escapes me here though - there must be many SI users who are under 18. How does signing up for SU show that one is 18?

4: Well in a perfect world, underage SUers don't go to R rated blogs because they are good little boys and girls.

But really this is probably an attempt to inflate sign up numbers before they sell off the SU service.

I LOVE administrators with integrity, don't you?

That's it, we're going to have to gangrape the mods. It's the only solution.

This decision seems pretty extreme on SU's part, especially considering how nonchalantly they go about deciding which pages are morally objectionable. I only hope this doesn't foreshadow even more austere content restrictions in the near future...

I second rape, by the way.

A 14 year old cant view an x page, so he signs up and says he is 21 then can view all pages! So the only point of this new rule is to increase sign ups! (and dont tell me its a legal requirement because it isnt!)

perhaps they look at it as closing a loophole. I mean, what is the point of restricting access within SU, when one can go and look at any site from outside SU.

I don't agree, but I can see the logic...

Boost sign ups, look better for investors, etc.
