Hmmm, just started occuring - flips   11-13>|

Couple of new occurences starting this morning Tuesday 8-29-06.

1. Being timed out (this was out work - shhhh)

2. Getting fliped to a new stumble without stumbling (home and at work) shhhh...link to my same su home page from work and home...but only at LUNCH : )

Event that is occuring for instance reading someone's comments reviews their page and then, in menu bar, a link occurs, (highlighted and in color? that is new too) as if I just reviewed it, and then if ignored...flips to it.

I DO sign out, as in close it actually sign out from each site before going to the other.

3. First page on other stumbles..if picture is first to show, load up time....have to wait, what appears is the blank....place holder - not sure of correct word...holder without picture.

Thoughts, suggestions...?

I have noticed the past few days, that when I go to my GO or history page, it shows sites that I have not yet visited. But that come up in the next few stumbles. It's like the computer is stumbling without me. I also get a box that says I am trying to open Real Player and I'm not. ????

#2 Carouselle...

Yeah, it is like this puppy has a mind of it's own...sounds like....rop row...I dare not mention the word....

My deal, perhaps like #2 attempts and will eventually open a site I previousl y visited, in my case rated, taged, submitted. I make a point of clearin my cache automatically and manually through SU...so I am not sure where this information is being drawn from.

I also attempt (an am a novice) to try to minimize linkages to sites I am reviewing - artist...and by the way, Flicker, other sites...just isnt working for me, and if you review my pages, give credit, quotes etc., to original artist and gallery..know I have alot more to learn on that.

PS - having said that, most stumblers' nitemare...wake up one morning and all the hotlinking...are what ever it is called....is BLOCKED.....

The toolbar does prefetch stumbles unless you tell it not to - this means it looks ahead at the pages that are next on teh list. I think it prefetches about five sites.

It looks like our timeout isn't killing the stumble attempt that failed. So even though you recieve a notification that the stumble server is unavailable, it's still attempting to fetch a stumble in the background. I'll post here when a fix for this is available in the alpha version of the Firefox toolbar.

Your item 3 probably isn't related to StumbleUpon. Since you're receiving timeouts, it's probably due to issues with your net connection.

The GO and history entries are an artifact of the new (and much more effective) prefetcher. If they bother you, you can disable the prefetcher via an item in the toolbar options.

The Real Player issue may be a problem. This shouldn't be happening. I'll look into it. If it happens again, please send me a copy of the text of the message that you receive.

Prefetch

Now that you mention that, I did play around with that option before all this started happening... trying to relocate where that is and see what option for that has been clicked.

Prefetch shouldn't have any effect other than on the load times of stumbles. I think the only difference is that instead of hitting up SU for a URL every time you click the Stumble button it stores a short list of sites to feed you when next you stumble.

The other behaviour you are reporting is not something I've seen before - it's certainly not a part of the expected behaviour when you set Prefetch to be on.

The prefetch flag is in the Stumblebar options.

Well, I had prefetch checked on my other computer that I had before this one, but the sites never showed up in my history section like now.

I think Joe's said that that is new behaviour thanks to a new prefetcher.
